Verónica Gaona

Verónica Gaona (b. 1994) is an artist from Brownsville, Texas, a city along the South Texas -Mexico border landscape, living and working in Houston. Gaona received an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Houston and a BA from The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley. Gaona was awarded the Latinx Fellowship Award (2023), the Chispa Award (2022), by The US Latinx Art Forum, and Artadia Award (2021). She participated in Monumentality in Art: Memory, History, and Impermanence in Diaspora panel at the CAA conference in Chicago, Illinois (2022) and was selected to take part in Engaging Latinx Art: National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (2022). Gaona attended the Desert Unit for Speculative Territories in Marfa (2019), Lawndale Art Residency in Houston (2022-2023), PAC Residency in Houston (2024), and will be participating in the International Studio & Curatorial Program in Brooklyn, New York (2024).
